Suzuki SX4 crossover launched

Suzuki Malaysia Automobile has launched its SX4 crossover in Malaysia, with the fully imported 1.6l vehicle arriving in five-door hatchback, two-wheel drive form.

There’s plenty to like in this one, not least the external shape. The compact, yet dynamic exterior styling, with a low, rising waistline and large, triangular windows giving rise to a sporty wedge shape, certainly looks the biz.

In keeping with the crossover theme, you get large 16-inch wheels (with 205/60R16 rubbers), with wheel arch mouldings, under spoilers, skid plates, high ground clearance, and side under protection mouldings added for good measure to give the cuddly critter a rugged, sporty outlook.

Inside, you’ll find an interior that’s predominantly black, highlighted with metallic accents. The spacious cabin has plenty of legroom and shoulder room, even for the rear passengers.

Particular attention has been paid to seat height, which works with the large door openings and high ground clearance to facilitate easy, natural entry and exit. The rear seats are slightly higher than the front seats to enable a good field of vision for rear occupants.

Luggage capacity with the rear seats up is a nominal 270l, though folding down the rear seats brings this up to 625l. Even without tumbling the rear seats, the luggage area can accommodate one large and one medium-size suitcase.

Powering the SX4 is the M16A 1.6l 16-valve DOHC VVT (Variable Valve Timing) engine found on the Swift Sport, though here it has been detuned to offer 100bhp at 5,600rpm and 140Nm of torque at 4,000rpm.

The block is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission, with a conventional gated shift.

Major features and equipment include front dual SRS airbags, ABS with electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist as well as a MP3/WMA CD receiver, eight speaker (four midbass units, four tweeters) system.

The SX4 is available in five colours, these being Sunlight Copper, Ocean Light Blue, Silky Silver, Pearl White and Bluish Black Pearl. The vehicle is priced at RM87,450 (on-the-road, without insurance).

If the idea of a V-Kool tint and leather seats package sounds appealing to you, then the RM91,750 (as above) Premier variant should be just the cuppa.
